Waco’s Thriving Growth: Culinary Expansions, Commercial Developments, and Transformative Projects
Waco’s commercial sector is experiencing significant growth, driven by an influx of new businesses and the steady expansion of existing ones. A vibrant example of this boom is the city’s evolving culinary scene, which continues to flourish with the introduction of exciting new eateries such as Salad and Go, Taco Casa, Blaine’s Restaurant and Wine Shoppe, and Jorge’s Cantina. These establishments, either recently opened or soon to debut, promise to enhance Waco’s dining landscape by offering a mix of fresh, diverse options for both locals and visitors. Additionally, well-known fast-food chains like Popeye’s and Whataburger are also strengthening their presence, further contributing to the city’s expanding range of dining choices.
A standout development in this landscape is the Hippodrome’s restaurant, Maria Mezcaleria, which is undergoing an expansion of over 1,000 square feet. This growth reflects the strong demand for dining experiences in the area, with the Hippodrome continuing to be a central hub for both entertainment and culture. Beyond the city’s core, this momentum is spreading to surrounding communities like China Spring, where Billy Bob’s Burgers is opening a new location, broadening dining choices for both locals and visitors from nearby areas, further cementing Waco’s status as a burgeoning culinary hub.
One of the most highly anticipated projects in Waco’s commercial development is the Webster Market, a dynamic retail and dining destination located downtown. Set to open by the end of the year, this 50,000-square-foot market is situated just a short walk from the iconic Magnolia Silos, a major tourist attraction. The Webster Market will feature an array of tenants, including the upscale Brazilian steakhouse Casa Do Brasil, offering a premium dining experience. This development is poised to elevate Waco’s reputation as not just a tourist draw but a leading culinary and shopping destination, providing a wider variety of dining and retail options for both residents and visitors.
Adding to Waco’s commercial evolution is the redevelopment of Floyd Casey, the former iconic college football stadium. Once a neighborhood-focused plan, this ambitious project has transformed into a community centerpiece due to extensive feedback from residents and city officials. The site will feature a mix of amenities, including a park, walking trails, tennis and basketball courts, a plaza, and even the original track and field, preserving the site’s rich history.
This redevelopment will also include over 250 homes, ranging from single to multifamily residences, and around 19 acres of commercial real estate. While the project has been in the works for some time, the thorough planning process has ensured that it reflects the community’s vision. With so much still ahead, this site is set to rise as a new city hub, blending residential, commercial, and recreational spaces into a thriving destination for the future.
